Being a SheaMoisture Brand Ambassador: SheaBassador 2018

If you've been following my Instagram lately, you'll know I was selected as a Brand Ambassador for SheaMoisture!

SheaMoisture is a leading natural hair, beauty, skincare, and cosmetics brand that prides itself on creating safe and uncompromising beauty (free of harmful ingredients), using ethically sourced ingredients, being cruelty free, and supporting communities along the supply chain through their Community Commerce initiatives. You can find their products online and at stores like Target, Ulta, Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, etc.

This is a huge milestone and great opportunity that means so much to me! I have been using SheaMoisture products since the beginning of my "hair journey". For my High School Senior Project, I created an eBook titled Chic Conscious Consumer discussing sustainability and ethical consumption, among other related topics. SheaMoisture was a brand I researched as an example of leading the way in the industry regarding these issues, and I'm so proud to be able to represent their products.

I've had a few questions come my way about how I became a SheaBassador, what the program entails, how I'm liking it, and more, so I'm going to share some answers here!

How did you become a SheaBassador?

In February 2018, SheaMoisture held a video contest on their social media pages to become a SheaBassador. The task was to create a 30 second video explaining why you should be a SheaBassador. I submitted a video, and was one of the people selected! I expect there will be a similar contest next year if you are interested in applying. There were no follower requirements, and I've seen SheaBassadors with varying numbers of followers and types of accounts.

What do you get as a SheaBassador?

Around monthly, we receive a box filled with products from a particular SheaMoisture line following a theme. The first box of the year featured three skincare products from the African Black Soap Bamboo Charcoal line, and the second box featured five haircare products from the Manuka Honey & Yogurt line. We also received a SheaBassador Class of 2018 T-shirt (pictured above). In addition to products, the SheaBassadors are connected with the brand for various activities.

What do you "do" as a SheaBassador?

Upon receiving the products, we can create content for our social media with our honest thoughts and reviews, as well as how to use the products! I believe in being honest about my reviews, regardless of whether they were sent as a gift or purchased with my own money, so all opinions will always be 100% my own. If I love a product, I'll share why! If not, I'll always let you know, and pass it on to a friend who may get better use out of it.

How are you liking being a SheaBassador?

I'm loving it! I’ve loved finding new curly hair accounts and curlfriends who are also SheaBassadors. The curly hair community on Instagram is so supportive and friendly, it really feels like a family. The chance to try out new SheaMoisture lines before they are widely distributed in stores is such a cool perk as well, and it's given me great inspiration for content for back2curly. I can't wait to see what else is in store for 2018!
